Obviously meant to be a 'heart-warming' story, this tale left me just cold. I can handle the camels, I can handle the zebras, but I really can't handle the tigers being so precious that I need to spend oodles of money building a palace for them. Where did these animals go after her death? ( )

Schaffer's metamorphosis from Indiana housewife to licensed endangered species breeder reads like a comedy of errors. Knowing little about camels, zebras, tigers, or ostriches, Schaffer nevertheless raised these and other species, not only on her Indiana farm, but actually in her bathroom, kitchen, mud room, and linen closet! She currently operates her farm as a bed and breakfast, where guests happily pay for the privilege of being sat upon by a territorial male llama or roared at by a Siberian tiger. Schaffer's book, peppered with quips, is strictly light reading for those who like unusual stories about exotic animals or eccentric suburbanites.

Schaffer tells how her Indiana farm, at the suggestion of a circus-performer friend, became home to a menagerie of exotic animals, including camels, zebras, tiger cubs, monkeys and llamas. Animal lovers especially will enjoy this account.
