Awesome story about his life as a kid and good moral lesson for all of us to know. Story moral: Sometimes in life we do not always get the things we want, but the things we do get bring us more joy than we can ever imagine. ( )

Glenn Beck's third novel, The Christmas Sweater is a fine story based loosely upon the events of his childhood. Once started, this is one of those books that you will either love or hate as the story evolves around the development of young Edward Lee’s faith and religion. I recommend this book highly for the fans of Glenn Beck and for those that are searching for questions about unconditional love in the face of tragedy. Good message, decent delivery. I give this book 4.5 out of 5. ( )

Somewhat swarmy fiction disguised as memoir of a childhood (apparently bestseller, from looking at holds at the local library)

Eddie is a 12 year-old boy whose father owns the city bakery. His father and mother have never been rich. In fact, Eddie goes to school with bread bags on his feet because his parents can’t afford boots. Still, Eddie has always been a part of a close-knit, warm and loving family. All of that changes when his father gets cancer and dies. Even though he still has the loving care of his mother and grandparents, Eddie struggles with his circumstances and the new, even deeper lack of material things that comes along with it.

In the back pages of this book there is a section that is written by the author that details the ways in which this story parallels his life. Because it is a personal story, I am reluctant to criticize it. However, I have to be honest and say that I did have trouble finishing this book.

I had a vague feeling that I had read this story before. Also, a certain portion of my problems stem from the fact that I have a different understanding of things pertaining to faith than the author defines in this book and I just couldn’t set that aside. Clearly, that isn’t his problem and I only mention it to say that it hindered my enjoyment of the story. Your mileage may vary. ( )

If You Could Change Your Life by Reversing Your Biggest Regrets, Sorrows and Mistakes...Would You?

#1 New York Times bestselling author and renowned radio and television host Glenn Beck delivers an instant holiday classic about boyhood memories, wrenching life lessons, and the true meaning of the gifts we give to one another in love.

We weren''t wealthy, we weren''t poor -- we just were. We never wanted for anything, except maybe more time together....

When Eddie was twelve years old, all he wanted for Christmas was a bike. Although his life had gotten harder -- and money tighter -- since his father died and the family bakery closed...Eddie dreamed that somehow his mother would find a way to have his dream bike gleaming beside their modest Christmas tree that magical morning.

What he got from her instead was a sweater. "A stupid, handmade, ugly sweater" that young Eddie left in a crumpled ball in the corner of his room.

Scarred deeply by the realization that kids don''t always get what they want, and too young to understand that he already owned life''s most valuable treasures, that Christmas morning was the beginning of Eddie''s dark and painful journey on the road to manhood. It will take wrestling with himself, his faith, and his family -- and the guidance of a mysterious neighbor named Russell -- to help Eddie find his path through the storm clouds of life and finally see the real significance of that simple gift his mother had crafted by hand with love in her heart.

Based on a deeply personal true story, The Christmas Sweater is a warm and poignant tale of family, faith and forgiveness that offers us a glimpse of our own lives -- while also making us question if we really know what''s most important in them.
