Hi everyone. I know this is not a recent book but I just finished Artemis Fowl and enjoyed it.

#1 for 2010 was Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer. This was actually the second book I started in 2010 as I'd already started Bad Science by Ben Goldacre which my hubby got for Christmas but I felt rather coldy today and needed something a bit less brain heavy. I enjoyed Artemis Fowl. I'd ...

Well, almost made 100 and that's pretty good. 99. Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer. A 12 year-old Irish genius puts all his efforts into stealing the gold of the People (sprites, fairies and such) who live underground. Even though his goal is to save his family, this isn't a story about a ...

I'm still reading Artemis Fowl as it was put on hold for several days while I caroused in Vegas with the family. After that, I start Man of Two Tribes and What Jane Austen ate and Charles Dickens Knew for my 1010 Challenge.

... his children's series, Keys to the Kingdom, very much as well. I also didn't like The Supernaturalist as well as the Artemis Fowl books. I agree, interesting but not absorbing. Hope to see you in the 2010 group, which I am studiously avoiding until Thursday!

I finished Gigi yesterday, the Goblin Market the day before and I've begun Artemis Fowl, which hooked me right away.

... I don't see how he can convincingly pick up the story from where it finished in the last book either... Sounds like Artemis Fowl is worth a read though. Re writing styles, I've a feeling that I heard an interview somewhere that said they're completely different and that he hasn't tried ...

... HOWEVER, this issue includes a Beta Ray Bill short story. Any book with Beta Ray Bill stays in my collection. Book 104: Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer. YA fantasy with a bit of an attitude. It was amusing and fun. I’m definitely on the hunt for book 2 in the series. Book 105: The Sound of ...

I concur with the Artemis Fowl suggestion. My 9 y.o. son and I listened to these over the summer during our longer morning commutes and they were very enjoyable. We also enjoyed Dragon Rider read by Brendan Fraiser which we listened to the year before.

... used to continue this slightly morbid trend), but by Eoin Colfer, author of the brilliant and multi-million copy selling Artemis Fowl children’s series. Colfer’s books are great fun to read; inventive, funny, and he uses his fantasy world to provide a commentary on the real world in a ...

... a book you've read before, you can get some great shades of character that you might not have thought of before. I liked Artemis Fowl when I read it, but I LOVED it after hearing Nathaniel Parker's reading of it. Also? Audio versions of non-fiction tend to be fantastic, especially since ...

My son and I are working through the Artemis Fowl audiobooks together. Just a little left on The Eternity Code and I've already picked up The Opal Deception to start directly after.

... and the attempts at decent characterization just got lost as the book went on. I have a vague recollection of reading Artemis Fowl, but was seriously unimpressed with it. I didn't hate Gregor the Overlander, but I think it's really overrated.

Interworld by Neil Gaiman was an interesting sci-fi story. I'm halfway through the second Artemis Fowl book by Eoin Colfer (fantasy) and there hasn't been any kissing or animals thus far, unless you count centaurs.

readafew in Book talk : Teen Reading: HELP! (Aug 5, 2009, 3:51pm)

Artemis Fowl perhaps? or The Journal of Curious Letters

54. The Arctic Incident Even better than Artemis Fowl! 55. Eve of Destruction Second in the Marked series. Looking forward to number three.

This stands for the whole series in most cases. Artemis Fowl and the rest of the series. (except #6) Fablehaven and the rest of the series. The Bartimaeus trilogy

I like dragon's, the Artemis Fowl series is on of my favorites so I'll say fairies too. I liked some books with unicorns but there are not a lot that are written for my age group. I have never liked vampires. I like witches or wizards as well... I am pretty much a mix.

... started the graphic novel Welcome to the Jungle which is a prequil to Jim Butcher's Dresden books and am listening to Artemis Fowl in the car with my son.

... reading once I got into this book, which surprised me because it's not the top of my list for Colfer's books -- I like the Artemis Fowl series, but didn't expect to find myself so thoroughly engrossed in a steampunky YA novel about flying machines and espionage. Fairies: -I second Jenson's suggestion of the Tithe series. -The Artemis Fowl books by Eoin Colfer have fairies of a rather different sort. -I haven't read them in years, but OR. Melling wrote a series called The Chronicles of Faerie which, as you might imagine, involves plenty of ...

... I am currently reading Airman by Eoin Colfer and am hoping to finish it tonight. This is the same author who did the Artemis Fowl series, of course, and I've read a lot of his stuff, which tends to be solid at the base, but fluctuates wildly by theme and, occasionally, level of engagement. ...

It's more for the younger kids, but I love the Fablehaven series. I also love Artemis Fowl. And the Warrior Heir series is really good, better for older readers. Hmm, teenage angst. I liked Full Tilt, a supernatural twist on angst. Silent to the Bone is good. So is Deliver us from Nor ...

He might enjoy the Artemis Fowl books by Eoin Colfer. They're a little longer than he specified though--about 300 pages each. My son read all of the books in the series and really loved them.

... had a clue as to what some of the words used in it meant; I'm surprised I managed to get through it, considering I hated Artemis Fowl originally because I didn't understand some of the vocabulary.

Love the Artemis Fowl books... the first four are my favorite, I believe. I haven't read the most recent one yet, but it's sitting in my TBR stack, waiting! Did you know they're also making it into a film? Not quite sure how that'll go over, though...

... Magic by Sharon Shinn - the last in the series - an easy good read The Wish List by Eoin Colfer - if you liked the Artemis Fowl series you would like this as well Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll - trying to get in as many classics that I've some how missed over the years :)

... loves all that Mathew Reilly stuff, I delve into that myself now and again, but he still re-reads all the Eragon, Artemis Fowl and quite a few of the others. I'm still working on my kids to turn them into BCers and LTers but it's a shame, they dont seem that keen. :-(

I read quite a bit - as I'm sure many of you here do - but I really need to tackle some more "serious" books. I would love suggestions on what to read that is 1) not a romance novel 2) not so complicated it can't be read easily and 3) interesting! Any ideas? My list is below: I added ...

readafew in Book talk : Book Series (Apr 30, 2007, 9:22am)

The closest Harry Potterlike series I've read though quite a bit lighter is Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl

I adore the Artemis Fowl books and although I have no children of my own, I have young nieces and nephews. I'd recommend them for kids of Artemis' own age (he's 12 at the start of the series), as they'll be able to identify with him a lot better. When the kids in my family reach that age, they'll ...

Finished Artemis Fowl last week, which I really enjoyed a lot and am looking forward to listening to the rest of the series now. Started Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, which I find I am enjoying now that I'm past the beginning, which seemed a bit slow to me.

I don't know of this would be considered more science fiction or not, but I've been enjoying the Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer.

... story arch (that I can remember) there are things that won't connect unless you've already read the books that precede it. Artemis Fowl just never hooked me. I know it isn't YA, but, honestly, the Dresden Files does the whole magic mixing with technology and the modern world, and does it a lot ...

I strongly disliked Artemis Fowl; the story was pointless and the characters unlikable. I did not like Angus, Thongs, and Full-Frontal Snogging; it was hardly as funny as proclaimed by my school librarian when she told me to check it out. I found Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator ...

heyjude in Audiobooks : Need suggestions (Mar 12, 2007, 8:31pm)

If you use Audible, try any of the Tamora Pierce books. And the first of the Artemis Fowl books by Eoin Colfer is also there.

... if you wanted to try that one out as well. Also, my co-worker highly (frequently and repeatedly LOL) recommends the Artemis Fowl and the Golden Compass books as well.

My son read the Artemis Fowl books when he was 13 and enjoyed them. My co-worker is in her 50s and also loves the books, so I guess the age level would be negotiable LOL. I haven't tried them yet, but probably will eventually.

... man of the highest order but also a political genius. Started Augustus: a novel by Allan Massie and, on audio, Artemis Fowl. (Edited to add I'm the Vampire, That's Why for my commute read.)

I would put Artemis Fowl in the same group as Harry, similar yet different. Eoin Colfer has a less serious approach and makes for a fun read.

... sandragon - seems like we're on a audible Harry Potter kick together :-) I'm looking forward to listening to the other Artemis Fowl books - the first one was a delight.

You know it's funny you should say that because I did just listen to Artemis Fowl on audiobook. I had downloaded it for my son to listen to in the car on a long trip we made at Christmas. (He had already read the book.) I actually really enjoyed it. Which was a surprise. That was also my first ...

I've been buying the Artemis Fowl books for a while with plans of reading them aloud to my kids, but I opened the first book at random a couple of days ago and spotted a reference to Santa Claus which seemed unsuitable for my two youngest, one of whom definitely still believes in Santa. so to ...

Oh, Katy, yes, I see what you mean. Very nice indeed! ;~b Well, that does it, I'm loading Artemis Fowl on my iPod tonight!

#101, Storeetllr - I just finished listening to Artemis Fowl by Nathaniel Parker - what a delight!! Such fun - I really think you'll enjoy it. #50, Snap ~ Oboy ~ I'm looking forward to listening to Artemis Fowl even more knowing the reader is a good one! Thanks! (My daughter and I used to love Goodnight Moon too!)

Picked up Artemis Fowl on audiobook from the library tonight and can't wait to load it on my iPod so I can start listening to it. It's read by Nathaniel Parker. Anybody know that name or, more pertinent to the matter, that voice? ;)

Today I brought these books home from the library: The Angel of Darkness by Caleb Carr, Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer (on audio), and Indiscreet by Mary Balogh.

I'm listening to the first Artemis Fowl, am almost finished it and will soon be starting A Slight Trick of the Mind. Fowl has been delightful - I'm hooked and will probably get the rest of the series now :-)

I got Artemis Fowl and A Slight Trick of the Mind, both of which are delightful so far - at least the parts I've listened to. AND I got a new iPod from my family with much more memory to put many more books on. I'm so spoiled :-)

... Artemis Fowl, though. I think the series is very clever and the characters are engaging." Yep, i'm totally with you. Artemis Fowl is a brilliant work, though I dont like the other book by Eoin Colfer: The Supernaturalist. It's just...... doesn't have the charm. Oh, and I heard that ...

Artemis Fowl?! Couldn't stand it back when i read the first one before it was a series, just didn't seem that engaging to me. Pendragon however, might just be worth a try.

Just finished the first Artemis Fowl (which I found lively but unexceptional) and the warm and personable Get a Life by French graphic novelists Dupuy and Berberian.
