The author manages to invoke both repulsion of and sympathy toward the vampire, Eli. Also, this is the first I've read that satisfactorily explains the reason a stake through the heart is an effective method to thwart a vampire. Unfortunately I never devoted much time each day toward reading and it took me weeks to finish, but once I got near the end I finished it all in one sitting, glaring at anyone who dared interrupt me. If you have time over, read this book. I will however not recommend that you sell your granny to be able to afford it, unless you really dislike your granny, of course.
