Kiinnostava näkökulma aiheeseen, joskin antropologin kirjoittamana lähdeaineisto vaikuttaa melko selkeästi valikoidulta tukemaan kirjan teoriaa (so. myytti intiaanien elämäntavan ekologisuudesta ja sen epähistoriallinen keinotekoisuus). Suuri osa sisällöstä käsittelee intiaanien osuutta 1600-1800-lukujen metsästys-turkiskaupassa. Mutta miksi sitten käsitellä alussa kappaleen verran muinaista hohokam-kulttuuria, jonka yhteyksistä myöhempiin kulttuureihin ei ainakaan kirjoittajan mukaan ole mitään varmoja todisteita? Kokonaisuus tuntuu tämän vuoksi hieman epäyhtenäiseltä, samaten kuin loppukappaleen vuolaat kuvaukset nykypäivän intiaanien arvosteluna näiden halukkuudesta myydä maa-alueena epäekologisen teollisuuden käyttöön(lue: turmelemiseen) ja syytökset näennäis"ekologisista" menneisyyden ihannekuvista.
