"Fantastic Night" was the longest and weakest of the stories in this collection, though its portrayal of a transformative experience was interesting. Each of the following stories, "The Fowler Snared" and "Letter from an Unknown Woman," is shorter and better than the stories that came before. It ends on a high note with "The Invisible Collection" and the truly outstanding "Buchmendel." ( )
