Part of the Critters of the Night series, which I enjoy even if I don't think they are the highest quality in children's literature. I appreciate the mix of fun and silly stories with monsters and supernatural creatures, the quirky joining of childish sweetness and the slightly macabre (very slight - this is, after all, a book meant for young children).

In this story, the little girl of the family is invited to a goblin's birthday party. The only way to receive an invitation is by hearing the clock strike thirteen on a full moon night. When she gets her invitation, she joins the party. Too bad the goblin is a spoiled and selfish baby. He never plays fair. A little lesson from his friends sets him on the right path, and they all can enjoy the rest of their evening together.

I love the illustrations. They're what draw me to this series time and again. The story was fine - it was cute, my daughters listened to it. Nothing spectacular, but combined with the great pictures, it has earned a spot on our shelves. ( )
