This will be my last Queen Betsy book. As much as I like the characters, there was just no plot here! You get a few promises of interesting stuff that might happen later, particularly with Betsy’s sister (the daughter of the devil), but nothing actually happens. I expected there to be a lot more involvement between Betsy and Nick as they search for the Driveway Killer, but instead, it’s all wrapped up inside of a chapter in a pretty anti-climatic way. Oh yeah, you get some expected bickering between Betsy and Sinclair, but that’s pretty much par for the course now. There wasn’t even any vampire politics. So I’m no longer wasting my time. ( )

I definitely think this series has lost it's spark for me. Really enjoyed the first two; the past two have been pretty much - eeh. ( )

Undead and Unreturnable is book 4 in Mary Janice Davidson's Queen Betsy Series - and I know what you're going to say... "Don't you have anything else to read?!" Well, yes I do, but alas gentle reader, you will just have to come along with me for a couple of more reviews in this series. I have gotten the first 5 books from the library, and am waiting on the next 2. What can I say, it's an undead world out there, and I'm just living in it! But I digress...

Undead and Unreturnable picks up where Undead and Unappreciated left off: Betsy is doing her best to be a good Queen, despite difficult personal issues such as a new baby half-brother, an impending "marriage" to Eric Sinclair, and the return of Jon, Betsy's adolescent stalker and former vampire slayer. In other words, it pretty much business as usual at casa Betsy.

As with the previous books in this series, I found Undead and Unreturnable a delightfully dramatic piece of ooey-gooey goodness! the direction the series has taken is compelling me forward - wishing I had requested the rest of the series from the library already. The story, hilarious as always, had me reading the book from start to finish, completely unable to put it down. The characters remain as captivating as ever - saucy and sassy, growing wittier and more endearing as I turn each page. I don't think I'll even be able to wait until tomorrow to start book 5! ( )

As Christmas approaches, Betsy has more on her mind than Queenly duties. There's still shopping to be done, a Christmas tree to put up in Jessica's house (to the horror of the vamps that reside there!) and her new baby step-brother. There's also a wedding to plan (she keeps pushing back the date she'll make it official with Sinclair), the matter of former-Bee Jon wanting to write her life's story for a college class, the reappearnce of vampire librarian Marjorie who wants her to write a column for the new vamp-based newsletter, and that god-awful Book of the Dead.

Add to that some other problems--there's a murderer called the Driveway Killer loose in Minneapolis, Sinclair isn't too happy about finding out that Betsy can hear his thoughts during their "intimate" moments, and Jessica is dating Detective Nick--and you have another comedy of errors starring the Queen of the Vampires.

This book is typical MaryJanice Davidson; funny, sarcastic, and full of snarky dialogue. Add to that Eric Sinclair's delicious "metrosexuality", and it's another winner. ( )

Another 5 stars book from MJD! Enjoyable and hilarious as usual, I liked again what I previously liked in the other books: character consistency, but I didn't mention hot and creative sex so I'll put it in my list. I know I'm being redundant in my reviews but this whole series is a worthy collection. The best thing about the heroine is she's not full of herself, she still acts human (except for the drinking blood and superpowers vampire stuff) and coexists peacefully with the others, not of her kind (i.e. human, fiend, werewolf), or does she? If Betsy is there, she invites trouble and gets out of it sometimes. The development in her relationship with Sinclair is a plus, aside from the heated sexual romps, they really become closer. It's amazing how no matter powerful vampires are, they still have their own fears. As with other Betsy books, we're all in for surprises and just grab it and read it and enjoy it! ( )
