A fun Christmas Dr Dolittle story with lots of players, events, and story-lines spiced with a little holiday magic and a nice ending but romance moved at warp speed and hero needed lots of help to see the obvious. Veterinarian Olivia tunes in to an unhappy horse owned by architect Tanner.

Olivia O'Ballivan, DVM has asked her brother Brad, a country singer newly married to Meg McKettrick in The McKettrick Way to build an animal shelter in Stone Creek. He hires his old pal, Tanner Quinn, to head up the operation. Tanner tends to move from place to place when contracted to construct a building, leaving his daughter in boarding school while he's away. Can Olivia convince him to put down roots in Stone Creek?
These characters are just so adorable, and after reading about Brad and Meg, I couldn't wait to find out who would be courting Olivia. Olivia's ability to communicate with animals and a visit from a guy who claims to be Kris Kringle lend the bit of mysticism that Miller seems to be adding to her books lately. I have to wonder if this has to do with the phenomenal sales of paranormal romance by the likes of Nora Roberts, Stella Cameron, and the chick who wrote those vampire books.
Olivia and Brad have a couple more sisters, and Tanner has a sister, too, who arrives in Stone Creek in this book. Miller could continue this series for a very long time and I would look forward to reading them. ( )

A light, easy read; visiting with familiar characters. ( )

Set in modern times instead of the old west this book brings some of the decendants of the early books to the present time. It tells the story of Olivia O'Ballivan, a veterinarian, who can "talk" to animals...and the rugged architect turned rancher Tanner Quinn and his twelve year old daughter Sophie. ( )

First words
Sometimes, especially in the dark of night, when pure exhaustion sank Olivia O'Ballivan, DVM, into deep and stuporous sleep, she heard them calling--the finned, the feathered, the four-legged.

Book description
Stone Creek veterinarian Olivia O'Ballivan communicates easily with animals, but men are another story. Especially rugged architect-turned-rancher Tanner Quinn. Olivia's uncanny bond with his daughter Sophie's pony, Butterpie, has him questioning her sanity, while she wonders if he's not just a drugstore cowboy. Then twelve-year-old Sophie conspires with Olivia to get Tanner into the spirit of Christmas with all the trimmings, including a tree-lighting ceremony and a man named Kris Kringle in a sleigh driven by seven reindeer…and a donkey. But will a holiday miracle transform the globe-trotting Tanner into a rancher—and family man—for all seasons?
