Anita Blake is an animator, one who raises dead bodies. It's a useful skill for police investigations. She's also a vampire hunter, and in this compilation she is hired by a vampire for his unknown client to investigate some recent killings of vampires. Interesting and multilayered storyline, good artwork and writing. The obvious comparison is "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". This is more edgy, less witty, and there are fewer characters, besides Anita, that really resonate with me. ( )

Overly rendered and watered down as it lacks the graphic sexuality of Hamilton's books. ( )

If you enjoyed Laurell's Guilty Pleasures novel, you will enjoy the graphic novel. Brett Booth illustrates the feisty and hot tempered Anita Blake very well. Seeing Anita and all of her acquaintances come to life and appear in this form is a real treat. I felt like they did a great job of staying true to the characters and the story while making it seem like a whole new story. ( )

A faithful adaptation of Laurell K. Hamilton's first Anita Blake novel. The art is great, the story fast-paced and exciting. I look forward to the next installment. I recommend this to teen readers who love horror, manga, and graphic novels. ( )

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0785127232, Hardcover)

New York Times bestselling author Laurell K. Hamilton brings Anita Blake to the world of graphic novels. Anita Blake lives in a world where vampires, zombies and werewolves have been declared legal citizens of the United States. Anita Blake is an "animator" - a profession that involves raising the dead for mourning relatives. But Anita is also known as a fearsome hunter of criminal vampires, and she's often employed to investigate cases that are far too much for conventional police. But as Anita gains the attention of the vampire masters of her hometown of St. Louis, she also risks revealing an intriguing secret about herself - the source of her unusual strength and power. This hardcover edition contains an all-new, original, never-before-published short story by Laurell K Hamilton.
