I finished The Tale of Despereaux last night, and decided it was too dark for my soon-to-be six year old daughter. That will go back on the shelf for a couple more years. Now I'm going to pick up the seasonally appropriate Holidays on Ice by David Sedaris. Can't wait!! Just finished The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo. It's a kids book about a mouse who rescues a princess. I didn't think it was as good as the Redwall books (though I must admit that I am about 20 years beyond its suggested age range), but it was still pretty darn good. I've never read The Tale of Despereaux, but this thread has conviced me I must read it. They are holding it at the library for me. I'll pick it up tomorrow! My "to be read" pile is never going to go away! I actually prefer The Tale of Despereaux to The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, though both were good. DiCamillo is an excellent author for middle-elementary ages.
