This one's a collection of For Better or For Worse Sunday strips, from September of 1979 to February of 1982. As such, there's no real ongoing storylines, just a gag a week. It's a four color book and for some odd reason, it's no longer in print, despite the fact that these strips weren't included in the regular collections. Oh, well. It's on my shelf, so I can't complain.

"For Better or For Worse" is my favorite current comic strip, and this is the first of two collections devoted to the early Sunday strips, which were omitted from the early book collections of daily strips. These are in color, and the Sunday strips were nearly always separate from the main continuity. The strip, viewed one day at a time, is a great one for its warm and true-to-life humor, the gentle artwork and the believability of the characters. Taken as a whole, it is unsurpassed as a depiction of the growth and development through comic strips of a typical American (Canadian, but that's American too) family over more than twenty years. Only the early "Gasoline Alley" comes close. At this time, most of Johnston'e early Sunday strips were about the hassles of raising two young and energetic children. ( )
