From my library, I recommend Dairy Queen by Catherine Gilbert Murdock, a young adult novel whose main character D.J. will stick with you. You aren't helping me keep to my resolution to buy no more new books until I read half of what I own. Yesterday I bought Dairy Queen and The Maze Runner :) ... and lots of laughs, don’t hesitate to check out Catherine Gilbert Murdock’s books about D.J. Schwenk, starting with Dairy Queen. I’m sad that the series has to end, but beyond satisfied at how Murdock elegantly ties everything together for a hopeful future. I'm reading Dairy Queen by Catherine Gilbert Murdock, a YA title, and Partners in Crime by Dame Agatha. ... an author my daughter recommends (she loves books, but also purses, and might have trouble choosing between the two!), and Dairy Queen by Catherine Gilbert Murdock, a YA title that looks good. There's also a thrid book in the Dairy Queen series due to be released in October. It's called Front and Center. From reading the description of it, it looks like it might feature more about DJ's love life than the Off Season did.

You probably already know this, but there is a sequel to Dairy Queen called The Off Season, which wasn't really romantic, but was an excellent story. Looking for good teen romances. I recently read Dairy Queen and love it. I'd like some written in the last 3-5 years. I want to compare them with some of the older teen romances in my collection.

4. Lizard People by Charlie Price - a quick read with an interesting twist ... I liked Dairy Queen and the Off Season as well. I just read Whale Talk and it has similarly great dialogue (though not as humorous) as John Green. You might also try Rats Saw God which is a more 90's era high school story, but fun too. Don't forget, if you like Dairy Queen there is the sequel called The Off Season. That was good as well. I really liked City of Ashes, City of Bones....just a suggestion. I second The Book Thief, Dairy Queen, and The Hunger Games and will add Graceling by Kristin Cashore to this list. Hmmmm. . . .

125 is Dairy Queen by Catherine Murdock. This is a young adult book I'd been meaning to try for awhile, and I'm glad I did. The basic story is a farmgirl from a very athletic ... I'm throwing in two more possibilities: The Amulet of Samarkand and Dairy Queen. All of the suggestions look great so far! I third the recs for Dairy Queen and The Off Season, they are both contemporary and have female protagonists, but aren't "girly" stories.
I also enjoyed Shug by Jenny Han although it might be a little young for 10th grade.
Sweetblood by Pete Hautman was also a good story of a ... A second on Dairy Queen, and the sequel, Off Season is good, as well. I'd also recommend Beauty Shop for Rent by Laura Bowers. To Kill a Mockingbird would pair nicely with In search of Mockingbird for a modern look at an old classic - and it also has a heroine who runs away, shades of Ho ... If the group is girls only, the Traveling Pants series by Ann Brashares is good, as is the Dairy Queen series by Catherine Murdock (at least the first two are out, although I forgot the name of the second title...).

The sequel to Dairy Queen was way, way too heavy, and didn't pick up the themes that made the first one a good book. I finished The Off Season by Catherine Murdock last night. After loving Dairy Queen I didn't think I would really like this book as much, but I did. It is much more serious with the issues it deals with but it was incredibly well told and very interesting. ... a bit more of Fang and Fur Blood and Bone. I also started re-reading Her Majesty's Dog Volume 3 and plan to start the Dairy Queen sequel, The Off Season by Catherine Murdock during lunch today.

After the book I'm reading now (Vanquished), I'll be reading Dairy Queen and Fang and Fur, Blood and Bone A Primal guide to Animal Magic. Three completely different books :-) I'm in the mood for variety. ... and the Chamber of Secrets in anticipation of seeing the new movie and release of the final book.
I also finished Dairy Queen yesterday. It is a YA book about a girl who lives on a dairy farm and in the process of helping a football player at a rival school train for the upcoming ... ... storm, which was a problem because I was reading it at work while I was in library school. I also agree with others about Dairy Queen, plus I got a good laugh out of The Gospel According to Larry and Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie . foggidawn--that is so true, I completely agree with your assessment of Dairy Queen and it didn't occur to me until just now! Just finished Dairy Queen by Catherine Murdock, which I really liked, though it's not the sort of thing that would usually appeal to me. And, for fun, I read Bhangra Babes by Narinder Dhami, and now I want curry. I also thought Day of Tears was very well done, but very depressing and sad. I read Twilight first then I listened to it, I thought the audio was ok. I ... I just picked up Dairy Queen from the library. I enjoyed it. I was a little unhappy with some twists in the book and the ending, but overall, it was solid.
