This was possibly the most ridiculous book I have ever read. The somewhat-repellent premise of What's Your Number? (previously titled 20 Times a Lady, which once you know the premise may sit as badly with you as it did with me) is that a 29-yo woman -- Delilah Darling, if you can stand it -- who's had 19 previous men in her life reads in a magazine that 10.5 is the lifetime average, decides that she is on her way to becoming a tramp and that her life total must not go over 20. When she has an another unthought-out one-night stand, she concludes that the only thing to do is to go on a cross-country trip to revisit all her previous boyfriends/partners and see if one of them has magically metamorphosed into Mr. Right. Considering that her life list includes nicknames such as Greg the East Village Idiot and Grody Gordy Peterson, it's safe to assume that there is a slew of good reasons these guys are exes.

If you like screwball comedy, you may enjoy this book, but don't expect the events to be even slightly believable. Delilah gets herself into a series of increasingly-impossible and/or appalling situations, demonstrating a total lack of sense both on her part and the author's. When I wasn't ranting about Delilah's unbearable narrow-mindedness, I was cringing at either her stupidity or her utter lack of tact.

The characters in this book are almost universally one-sided caricatures, very shallow. Even her grandpa, who is presented as the voice of wisdom, disappoints by the end. I did read the book all the way through, hoping to see Delilah grow in wisdom, but there just wasn't enough payoff in that regard. ( )

Completely amazing! The beginning was a bit slow and this might throw some people off, however the story and the message was truly outstanding and I adored it. It is a novel all women should read to clear their thoughts and doubts on the discussed topic these days, love. ( )

This is a hilarious book! The main character realizes that she has slept with way too many men and wants the next one to be her last. After finding and meeting some of her previous "dates", she can't figure out why she went with them in the first place. A very good read, and of course, the movie doesn't do it justice. ( )

How many men does it take to find true love?

Delilah Darling's magic number was supposed to be twenty. She always thought she'd find the perfect guy by the time she'd slept with twenty of them. But when she wakes up naked in her disgusting boss's bed after a drunken night out, she's filled with regret -- and realizes she's hit her self-imposed limit. Unwilling to up her number but unable to imagine a life of celibacy, Delilah does what any girl in her situation would do: she tracks down every man she's ever slept with in a last-ditch effort to make it work with one of them.

A hilarious romp through Delilah's past loves, 20 Times a Lady proves that in the end, numbers don't matter. True love will come when you're open and ready to accept it.

"When Delilah Darling reads a survey revealing that most people have 10.5 sexual partners in their lifetime, she begins to feel like a tramp. She's slept with nineteen men so far -- almost twice the national average. During a self-help moment, she vows to cap her "number" at twenty, swearing she'll save her last spot for the right guy. But after losing her job and having a wild night on the town, she falls in bed with Mr. Wrong. Unwilling to up her number, but also unable to imagine a life of celibacy, Delilah does the only thing a girl in her situation can do: she tracks down every man she's ever slept with in a last-ditch effort to make it work with one of them. A hilarious romp through Delilah's past loves, What's Your Number? shines a spotlight on every woman's dirty little secret and proves that, when it comes to matters of the heart, sometimes numbers tell only a fraction of the story"--P.
