In Finger Lickin' Fifteen , Stephanie's working on solving two mysteries: who is stealing from Ranger's clients (and is it an inside job?), and how to keep Lula alive after she witnesses a famous barbecue chef getting decapitated. In the meantime, Lula's recruited Granny to help her invent an award-winning barbecue recipe, Morelli and Stephanie have broken up, and Ranger is damn sexy. This was awesome - fun, fast-paced and laugh-out-loud. Lorelei King does a wonderful job narrating (I hear her voice doing Lula and Granny whenever I read the books) and I'd suggest not listening to this while in public. I think my neighbors must have wondered what was going on in my apartment, I kept laughing so hard. Recommend this for the humor, not the crime-solving. The characters never change or grow and the events from edition to edition change only by secondary character name.Traipsing through that last six or seven installments, the reader knows ahead of time that the series heroine, Stephanie, will continue to waiver between two men, getting close to humping Ranger while ultimately ending up with Morelli, Lula will continue to be food obsessed and clothes challenged, cars will burn, apprehensions will be blundered, Grandma will hook-up with a transvestite that somehow ends up un the Plum familiy household and an amusing dinner fiasco will ensue.As the series progresses, the risk and danger fades into little more than annoyances.It's not unlike eating a Twinkie; you know what you're in for but if the urge strikes you, bon appitite...  Evanovich fans who favor Joe will think Stephanie spends too much time with Ranger in "Finger Lickin' Fifteen." Ranger's fans won't mind that one bit. Savvy readers root for neither man to win Stephanie. That ensures we'll have No. 16, and, we hope, many more installments in this funny series.  Only Evanovich can make the shenanigans of this nutty crew seem almost reasonable. Evanovich understands on a fundamental level how to tell a good story and that’s something that is all too rare in today’s fiction, whether you’re talking about genre, literary, or otherwise. Along with her sense of story, Evanovich’s greatest talent is her ability with characters. In the Plum series, she’s created a likable collection of players, most of whom appeal because they’re so much more screwed up than we are. One reason why fans hunger for the next installment in the Plum series is the familiarity with the characters, setting and comedic mayhem that Evanovich provides in each story. But as funny as "Finger Lickin' Fifteen" is – and it is funny – nothing much changes in Stephanie's life, and it may be time for her to move on... Read "Finger Lickin' Fifteen" for the laughs, not the plot. And let's hope Stephanie's next adventure will be a little less predictable. Evanovich writes with flair in an absurdist vein that her imitators can only envy. (“The bacon diet is unhealthy,” Stephanie solemnly advises Lula. “You had packs of dogs chasing you down the street when you were on the bacon diet.”) And while Evanovich may go overboard on the comic mayhem, she does it only so the kids are sent off to sleep smiling.

I have to say, the only thing that really bugged me was that Evanovich wrote that Morelli is taller than Ranger. No he's not. Morelli is about 5'10". He's handsome and cute and got a huge smile and used to charming the pants off women since he was 13. Now Ranger...Ranger is 6'2" and has cafe au lait skin and dark and chiseled has deep-set eyes to match his deep, velvety voice.
It's also got lots of Lula. If you don't like Lula, you're not going to like this one. (
