Door een kollega wordt commissaris Maigret uit bed gebeld om het onderzoek te starten naar de moordenaar van een keurige man. Omdat hij ook in de familie en de omgeving alleen keurige mensen aantreft, lijkt het bijna onmogelijk een motief te vinden. Maigret probeert door zich in te leven in wat de familie beweegt, erachter te komen of ze iets verbergen. Na veel geduldig onderzoek lukt het hem het ook hier aanwezige familiegeheim boven water te krijgen. Herdruk van een al in 1960 verschenen roman, maar voor de Simenon/Maigret-liefhebber zeker welkom. Een aardig verhaal dat weinig gedateerd overkomt. Redelijk spannend. - Tjitske de Heij.
