What happens to Aladdin's Lamp after Aladdin loses it? This is the story of the beggar girl whose life is transformed. The author is a big fan of Lloyd Alexander, and it shows here with a similar style. Characters aren't very complex and the moral issues are a bit heavy handed, but there is plenty of humor and a fun adventure. ( )

Magical Aladdin’s lamp has a new owner, an orphan girl Aminah, whose father was a scholar at the sultan’s court. Aminah hoped that the princess would save her from poverty, recognizing her ability to offer her a job. Instead of showing mercy, the princess threw the lamp away by mistake, thinking that she got rid of the beggar girl and the worthless item at once.
While the palace soldiers and spies were after Aminah, she learned how to deal with the jinni’s temper and be careful what she wishes for.
Idris, the clever boy and the older warmhearted women Barra became her family and shared the luxury of her new home. Being chased and in constant danger from the princess, Aminah managed to help the poor as she never forgot what it is like to be hungry. She was her father’s daughter, seeking enjoyment in books and play chess with the jinni who shared this passion with her.
Aminah shows empathy, gratefulness and interest in others. The Jinni is not an exception; although he is a demon without a heart he couldn’t resist Aminah's friendly nature. ( )
