Mistress of Justice: A who-done-it within a legal firm. Well written, very involved with just too many miracles for my taste. ( )

Asked to help attorney Mitchell Reece locate a stolen document that could cost him a multimillion-dollar case, paralegal Taylor Lockwood finds out what goes on behind closed doors at Hubbard, White Willis.

Well plotted crime novel with some surprising twists, but not his best by any means. ( )

The ingredients were there - I should have liked the book as a result - but I didn't and abandoned part way through. Lots of interesting details, a twisted plot, some thoroughly unlikeable characters, lots of politics and general intrigue, jazz, and some odd episodes of violence. I happened to have the author's preferred/tweaked version to read - that may turn out to be why the book sometimes felt clunky and unevenly paced and written. ( )
