Peter wakes up one morning and everything is covered in snow as far as he can see. He puts on his snowsuit and heads out to explore. He makes tracks in the snow, climbs snow mountains, builds snowmen, and carves snow angels. At the end of a snow filled day, Peter tells his mom about his adventures and dreams that the sun melts the snow away. But when he wakes up the snow it still there. http://www.ezra-jack-keats.org/ is a great resourse for Keats' foundation.

A snow day. Little Peter goes out in his red snow suit to play in the snow. A little adventure that only snow can bring. ( )

This was a great book about a little boy who goes out one day and plays in the snow. He makes his own snowball, but as the day goes on, the snowball unfortunately melts. This is a great story to have in your library if you want to have a good book to read to your class on a cold winter day when you're hoping for some snow. I really enjoyed this book and think many kids will too.

This book was between a level 1 and 2 book. It was an easy read witth many pictures to help children understand what they are reading. The story is about a boy named Peter and he plays in the snow. He goes on an adventure throughout the day and finds many ways to walk in the snow. He makes a snowman with a smile and puts a snow ball in his pocket. When he arrives home his mother puts him in the bath but he realizes the snow ball is gone. That night he dreamed the sun melted the snow but when he awoke there was more snow than the day before. The could help students because the pictures tell the story as well.

The Snowy Day is a story about a boy named Peter who wakes up one morning to snow. Peter has a fun filled day playing in the snow. He walks around in the snow, makes snow angels, and slides down hills. He made a snow ball and put it in his pocket. When he wakes up in the morning the snow ball melted and he had a dream that the snow melted all of the snow away. When he looks out the window he is happy to see that the snow is still outside. This is a great story for intermediate readers and the illustrations are beautiful!! ( )

Book description

Amazon.com (ISBN 0140501827, Paperback)

The Snowy Day, a 1963 Caldecott Medal winner, is the simple tale of a boy waking up to discover that snow has fallen during the night. Keats's illustrations, using cut-outs, watercolors, and collage, are strikingly beautiful in their understated color and composition. The tranquil story mirrors the calm presence of the paintings, and both exude the silence of a freshly snow-covered landscape. The little boy celebrates the snow-draped city with a day of humble adventures--experimenting with footprints, knocking snow from a tree, creating snow angels, and trying to save a snowball for the next day. Awakening to a winter wonderland is an ageless, ever-magical experience, and one made nearly visceral by Keats's gentle tribute.

The book is notable not only for its lovely artwork and tone, but also for its importance as a trailblazer. According to Horn Book magazine, The Snowy Day was "the very first full-color picture book to feature a small black hero"--yet another reason to add this classic to your shelves. It's as unique and special as a snowflake.
