Peter wakes up to and it has snowed. He spends all day playing in the snow in different ways by himself. He comes home to his mom, who takes care of him and sends him to bed. He dreams that the snow has all melted away, but the next day there is more snow, and he plays in it with his friend. A good website for this book is: http://www.ezra-jack-keats.org/charac... The book is about a boy named Peter, who wakes up one day and it is snowing outside. He goes out and plays. He does different things in the snow. Eventually, the snow melts later on. Then he goes to bed and wakes up with snow again. This book is a great read aloud with great pictures. A little boy, Peter, wake one morning and spends the day in the snow. This would be great for a cold school day, weather it was snowing or not, because then the students could be wishful for snow. Peter wakes up one morning and everything is covered in snow as far as he can see. He puts on his snowsuit and heads out to explore. He makes tracks in the snow, climbs snow mountains, builds snowmen, and carves snow angels. At the end of a snow filled day, Peter tells his mom about his adventures and dreams that the sun melts the snow away. But when he wakes up the snow it still there. http://www.ezra-jack-keats.org/ is a great resourse for Keats' foundation. no reviews | add a review
Amazon.com (ISBN 0140501827, Paperback)The Snowy Day, a 1963 Caldecott Medal winner, is the simple tale of a boy waking up to discover that snow has fallen during the night. Keats's illustrations, using cut-outs, watercolors, and collage, are strikingly beautiful in their understated color and composition. The tranquil story mirrors the calm presence of the paintings, and both exude the silence of a freshly snow-covered landscape. The little boy celebrates the snow-draped city with a day of humble adventures--experimenting with footprints, knocking snow from a tree, creating snow angels, and trying to save a snowball for the next day. Awakening to a winter wonderland is an ageless, ever-magical experience, and one made nearly visceral by Keats's gentle tribute. The book is notable not only for its lovely artwork and tone, but also for its importance as a trailblazer. According to Horn Book magazine, The Snowy Day was "the very first full-color picture book to feature a small black hero"--yet another reason to add this classic to your shelves. It's as unique and special as a snowflake. (retrieved from Amazon Fri, 24 Apr 2009 07:58:15 -0400) The first test round has been closed. Visit the Open Shelves Classification group for details. |
