#152 - there are 4 sequels to the talented mr ripley and I agree they're all as good (though I think the last one ripley under water got a bit slated by the critics. collectively know as the 'ripliad', ... There are 3 Ripley sequels following the rest of his life--each just as good as the first in my opinion.

The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith is the first of her novels featuring amoral, mass-murdering sociopath and all-around bon vivant Tom Ripley.
What can I add to the generations of praise heaped on Highsmith's male alter ego? What else need ... ... books that show up as people's favorites; I never imagined so many people would love Ferdinand!

I've not read the Ripley books and I've not seen the film either, because the blurbs just didn't catch my interest. But now that I've read one of her books, lackluster blurb be damned--I'm ... Started, and finished, The Talented Mr. Ripley for my RL Book Circle...and we're not meeting until 9/2. Oh well, I guess I'll have to read it again. Boo hoo. I'm also a Ripley fan, and after reading the Highsmith biography by Andrew Wilson recently have been collecting her non-Ripley books in order to have a run at her work later in the year. Looks like I'll have to start with Strangers on a train.
I have The Red Necklace home from the library ... ... this afternoon for a chat. I fear he's falling in love, and that's never good. I was at the liberry today to pick up The Talented Mr. Ripley for the Book Circle and lo and behold! There was Grave Goods smirking smugly at me, glistening with the pixilations of prose by Miss Franklin...I ... Patricia Highsmith is indeed a superb writer. If you have not already done so, I highly recommend her Ripley series. Even if you've seen the movie, the books are so much more compelling (and funny in a twisted way). I'm quite enjoying The Talented Mr Ripley- a great thriller for the beach! ... Bowen

The Talented Mr Ripley is about a man who attempts to take over the identity of one of his friends. The whole thing goes squirrelly on him and he ends up murdering his friend. In attempting to get out of that, he must commit another murder. So ... ... beginning it again. (and they should write a lot more for "us")
Anyhoo----I finished Gilead, wonderful book, then read The Talented Mr. Ripley, also very good and am now reading a biography: Carrington: A Life which is also very good so far.

Started on The Talented Mr Ripley, and I have Oscar and Lucinda, The Yellow Wallpaper, The Tartar Steppeand The Sorrow of Belgium lined up. But under intense thesis finshing pressure, plus promised articles for ... I enjoyed The Talented Mr. Ripley quite a bit. I have not seen the movie, so I went into it fresh, and was impressed with the pacing and buildup. I would like to see the movie now, just to see how they compare. What did you think of The Talented Mr. Ripley? I've only seen the movie but I've been thinking about reading the entire series for a while now. 36. I'm nearly finished with The Talented Mr. Ripley, but, needing a change of pace, I picked up The Liar by Stephen Fry over lunch today (because, um, a book about a dishonest, mostly gay, sort of con artist is so different from the first), and am enjoying it a lot.

I am now reading The talented Mr Ripley, which is in the 1,001. I am sure the travel guide also recommended it as a Venice-read...? The film (Jude Law/ Matt Damon) is one of my favourites ... ... no conscience about doing bad things. Example is Tom Ripley, from Patricia Highsmith's series of novel, beginning with The Talented Mr. Ripley. Also, the killers in In Cold Blood.
The second is a villain who has no idea that they are a villain. They think they are doing the right ... I finished The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith, and I thought it was good. I had previously seen the movie, and they were about as close as any book to movie combo I've read and seen to date. Pretty light reading for the most part, but well written like most everything else on ... ... of The Big Sleep has excellent performances, but the plot was amended, with the effect of making it incomprehensible.
The Talented Mr Ripley although a good film, also suffers in my view from unnecessary changes to the plot.

I just finished The talented Mr. Ripley and I wanted to like this book more than I did. I found it a bit slow in places and really drawn out. Which is a pity because I know people review this book well. I also found it odd that no one caught one that when ripley ... I am half way through The talented Mr. Ripley and am enjoying it so far. The Talented Mr Ripley is fascinating. One case of the movie actually complementing the book for me. Highly recommended. All of the John Wyndham science fiction books were much better than I thought they would be, as well.
The Talented Mr. Ripley was very good...I didn't expect it to be that good, because the movie was okay, but not great (although the lesser known film, Ripley's Game, is ... ... behaviour from him. The meticulousness, however, is there, particularly when he's making his perfumes.
Tom Ripley in The Talented Mr. Ripley has a different agenda altogether, as the mimicry of those very preferences is a way for him to get what he wants, rather than a personal taste.

The making of a murderer. I've loved the book The Talented Mr Ripley since my teens, and I was afraid they'd ruin it in the film version, or at least mess it around a lot (as in Plein Soleil), but actually I thought it was excellent and really captured the spirit of it while staying true to detail. The Talented Mr. Ripley is an example of a book I read after the seeing the movie. Not nearly as enjoyable. In fact, I liked the movie much better than the book in this case. Matt Damon was so creepy.
