Read January, 1998
These are thoroughly enjoyable on many levels. Mary Stewart is an excellent writer.
Wonderful nature descriptions, wry wit, lots of literary allusions, multi-lingual snippets, and good plotting (for the genre.)
Also a real window on social mores and conventions. People smoke quite naturally.
