I have been anxiously awaiting the next book in the Lords of the Underworld series and this one certainly did not disappoint. I found it a little hard to like Sabin but I loved Gwen and her harpy sisters. Sabin's total dedication to winning the war against the Hunters even if it meant hurting his friends or other people rubbed me the wrong way. But the harpies definitely made the book worth reading. The action was great and it was it was nice to see Sabin brought to his knees by a woman. This story was also filled with some great twists and turns in the battle between the Lords and the Hunters. I did not see those coming and cannot wait to read more about these new developments. We also get a few more glimpses into Paris's and Gideon's stories. Ever since Paris's woman was killed I've been dying to know what is going to happen in his story. Luckily according to the page at the end of this book the next Lords of the Underworld installment is due out January 2010 and it will be called Heart of Darkness. I cannot wait because it features another Harpy, one of Gwen's sisters! ( )

Summary: Bound by the demon of doubt, Sabin unintentionally destroys even the most confident of lovers. So the immortal warrior spends his time on the battlefield instead of the bedroom, victory his only concern…until he meets Gwendolyn the Timid. One taste of the beautiful redhead, and he craves more. Gwen, an immortal herself, always thought she’d fall for a kind human who wouldn’t rouse her darker side. But when Sabin frees her from prison, battling their enemies for the claim to Pandora’s box turns out to be nothing compared to the battle Sabin and Gwen will wage against love…

First off....let me say when I saw Nyx (see Kresley Cole) in this book walking though Buda...I squealed like a little girl and got crazy excited, especially since Torin was instantly attracted, you know what that means. We have reached the point where Gena Showalter is starting to bleed her plot a bit...we are seeing more of the other characters perspectives in this book than in the others, and I like it. I like Sabin's take charge sort of character but I felt that the conflict between himself and his female, Gwen, was a bit forced...like Showalter was just trying to put something in there quickly to give them some sort of conflict. This book started and ended well...it flowed throughout and there was no tedious catch-up for days. Over all not too bad a read, I am excited for the next book in this series...hopefully we will see more of Nyx.

Ehhh...I loved the beginning to this series, but each subsequent book has gotten a little more muddied and convoluted and a lot less interesting for me. Showalter seems to be trying to keep track of far too many story lines at the same time, and jumping back and forth between the main characters (in this case, Sabin and Gwen) and a billion other story lines gets irritating, confusing, and really made me lose interest in even the main story line pretty quickly. Also, is it just me, or are the female leads becoming progressively more Mary Sue-ish? I loved the concept of Gwen (half-breed Harpy, conflicted over her own nature, trying to fit into her family's world and failing miserably), but the execution was very one-dimensional. Will I keep reading the series, and hope for the best as far as Showalter being able to rediscover the magic that held me captivated in the first two books of this series? Definitely. But I'm not holding my breath by any means. ( )

Wish I liked this more then I did. Sabin is a great hero and deserves a great love story, but what he gets is weak and annoying Harpy. The sex and chemistry between the main characters was hot, but fizzled when they weren't in the bedroom. Also, a lot of head hopping, not just between Sabin and Gwen, but to the other Lords of the Underworld who have nothing to do with the main story. All the Lords will have a book dedicated to them why do they have to intrude on Sabin and Gwen's love story? ( )

Ever since the Budapest and Greek warriors had mended fences and decided to work together to defeat their common enemy (Galen the keeper of Hope), find the missing relics and secure Pandora’s box, Sabin the keeper of Doubt had wondered at the addition of the women. It seemed to make Maddox the keeper of Violence, Reyes the keeper of Pain and Lucien the keeper of Death weaker. Finding a group of women locked in glass cages did peak his interest as to why the Hunters would keep them. After finding out she (Gwen Skyhawk) was a Harpy, he could understand why the locked her up, he just found himself not liking it. Timid, she had always been, and scared of nearly everything, but after the warriors rescued her, she still had trouble trusting that they would not hurt her as the others had done. The violence she witnessed at the Hunters hands and the pain she felt at her own lack of ability to help them, even though she was feared by so many, still shamed her.

Book 4 …. Another wonderful Gena Showalter, I have missed these demons and their keepers. This book had so much in it from new characters to great fights. Action packed from the beginning. The characters return book after book and just get better and better. The new characters, have so much character to start with this time, all of them are quite impressive. This book gave more of a glimpse into the rest of the Keepers also, very nice to see things from the point of view of Gideon (Lies), Strider (Defeat), and even Torin (Disease). We also get to see possible set ups for future books (anxious to see who is next) over and above the continuing quest for the relics, Pandora’s box and the capture of Galen. Luckily I don’t have to wait too long, the next Lords of the Underworld book (Heart of Darkness) is due to be released January 2010, yeah! ( )
