This extraordinary book is a tribute to a group of young Catholic priests who, for two years, from 1943 to 1945, risked their life to save Jews from the Nazis. The author, a noted photographer, came to the US after the war and became a photographer for the entertainment arts. However, he was compelled to recount the story of the events of his life and family, which survived the Holocaust in Italy, and the Italian clergy who had saved them. His memories are raw, agonizing, sorrowful, yet touched with poignant hope, and the relief of eventual liberation Readers will not fail to be moved by these stirring and painful memories that are marked with the example of these courageous priests who spared no efforts to save Goldman's family's life, as well as the lives of many others. Absorbing, wonderfully written, and, heart-rending, and, ultimately, life affirming, this book deserves to be widely read. A comparison with Anne Frank is not overstating its merit.
