Daphne is a vampire, speaks several languages and has spent her many centuries evading authorities until the US government decide to recruit her. Darius della Chiesa is a vampire hunter determined to kill her. They find themselves attracted.

It's pretty predictable and pretty ho-hum for the genre. ( )

Beyond the Pale contained a interesting storyline that I believe was interesting in content. Though, I spent the whole book feeling the book was lacking in character build up and setting for this story. While reading this story I felt that it had no emotion. A wonderful book is one that you feel yourself taking the ride with the character, this book gave me the impression that I was watching it from afar and no where new the center of the story. l do not look for myself tme.continue with this series. Althoug, this was the first writing that I had read by Savannah Russe and I will not write her off at this tie. ( )

Written by one of my best friends, this is the first in a five book series by USA Today bestselling author Savannah Russe.

Russe is a terrible writer. ( )

Paranormal romance. Though, like MJD's U&U books, the romance isn't the main point. Vampire spies. I should have loved this, but it was just a little too uneven. Humor, angst, quirky family members, serious spy suspense, a hint of a love triangle. Hopefully in the next book, it'll fit together better. ( )

An interesting story. The writing is way too full of cliches. My propaganda sensors were buzzing a little with all the patriotic stuff about fighting terrorism. ( )

I purchased all three darkwing books at the used book store. Let me rephrase that...I made the mistake of purchasing them at the used book store. The only good thing I can think of is that I didn't pay full price for them.

I thought the werewolf book I read a few months ago was bad. Until I tried to read this that is. Atleast I managed to finish the lori handeland book. I only managed the first few chapters of this book. And it has been sitting on my bookshelf ever since. After reading the back of the book I thought it would be an interesting read to add to my growing collection. I found it boring and forced. I couldn't even get my mother to read it and she reads anything I push at her now (I managed to convert her with anita blake and the dark hunters). ( )

It's been a long time since I could not finish a book, so I guess this book is exceptional on at least one front.

It was poorly written with boring characters and a ridiculous premise. Seriously, if you're going to make your main character a spy, do some research! The stupidity and lack of professionalism of the characters just made me upset. Could not finish. ( )

A covert government agency makes a vampire woman an offer she can't refuse. Work for them, or don't do anything ever again.

They have some terrorists to stop, and her superhuman abilities will be needed.

She also has a problem in that after causing a serious problem for Byron, she has been celibate for a century or so. So, of course the first guy she meets and finally shags turns out to be a vampire hunter.

Apart from the bad guys she eventually gets the better of, it turns out her mother is involved with a secret group of super vampire agents called Team Darkwing. A bit annoyed by this revelation, she can't be too mad given they helped her out.

Good for a first book in the series. Has potential to be a good trilogy. ( )

"The government knows that Daphne Urban is a vampire, and they have an ultimatum: spy for them, or be killed. The choice is easy. She can speak 13 languages, has a genius IQ, and has escaped detection for nearly five hundred years-making her perfect for Team Darkwing. Her first mission is to get close to Bonaventure, a shady arms dealer with an unexpected gift for seduction. But when Darius, a darkly sexy vampire slayer, begins chasing her, Darius is torn between desire and duty. For his lithe, young prey is also his ultimate temptation."

Well, I was a bit underwhelmed. The vampires were all pretty silly creatures. Ok, they looked cool in bat-form, but they were also very shallow, one-dimensional and pretty naive, considering their age. The plot idea sounded promising, but I was not convinced. ( )

Wow! This was an awesome book, and a debut from this author no less. No wonder NeedSun had to immediately buy/locate book two. If she hadn't, I might've had to. ;)

This book is classified as a romance, and though I can see the romance aspect, it definitely wasn't the primary focus of the book which made me enjoy it even more. I like books where romance, if included at all, is more of an afterthought than part of the main story line.

Daphne is a strong, tough character, the kind I like, and a vampire to boot. Plus she's a Monkey in Chinese Astrology like me. :) In Beyond the Pale, Daphne, a nearly 500 year old vampire, is approached to join a team of vamps working for the US government to help catch terrorists. Vampires aren't widely recognized and accepted here like they are in the Anita Blake books, instead only certain government officials, and the Vamps themselves, really know of their existence. And with their superhuman strength, Team Darkwing makes a great set of heroes!

Though I just finished saying I don't care for the romance aspect, I'm curious to find out what happens between Daphne and Darius in the next book. Joanne, hurry up and read book 2 so I can be next! ;) LOL ( )

A very fun, light vampire read. Beginning is really good but then toward the end it dips. She writes her main character very sassy. I'm still looking foward to the next book. ( )
