I liked this book better than the first in the series. I thought the plot was more complex and engaging, which surprised me. I also loved the romantic elements and the development of the relationship between the hero and heroine -- right up until 10 pages from the end. I really like the heroine's voice, and the 1st person POV works very well here. I was also intrigued by the way the author kept complicating things for the heroine.Overall, a satisfying read. (B) ( )

I have a thing for dragons, and smart Alec characters. So this series really suits me. I enjoyed the interactions of the characters and the mystery. Jim's too funny, Drake... wanted to slap him a few times. All in all, this will always be a top book in my library. ( )

Fine. Aisling's a Guardian. She can't get out of it so she might as well accept it. That takes her to a conference in Budapest where she has to find a Guardian to train her. Naturally, nothing goes smoothly. ( )

So, so bad. One of those modern-fantasy romances that are so popular these days (Charlaine Harris, Carrie Vaughn, Kim Harrison…), but with purpler prose and an even less engaging plot. ( )

Epigraph
Dedication
I am always grateful to a number of people by the time I’m done with a book—my editor and agent for encouraging me to continue to write, the readers who send me letters urging me to write faster (which make me giggle), and my friends and family who put up with my general crankiness while I’m writing. All of that is true with this book, but in addition, I’m also profoundly appreciative of Laura Toth’s help with the Hungarian phrases and words used, and for being the inspiration for setting this book in her beloved Budapest.
First words
"You'd think that Hungary would see the light as far as secondhand smoke is concerned, wouldn't you? I probably lost at least thirty percent of my lung capacity on the trip from the airport."
