Creeped out by this, well written tale of 4 children. ( )

A very strange but compelling and haunting novel about a family with an unusual secret hidden in the cellar. Hard to forget... ( )

makes you realise how the need for security can pervert behaviour and reduce the world's horizon
and yet the family only wanted to stick together but used the wrong "glue"
i love the end when the boyfriend calls the police, only an outsider could see how sick the family
was, and he could only save them with a "brutal" waking up.

Taas upea tarina Ian McEwanilta! Pieni mutta niin suuri kertomus lapsista, jotka jäävät yksin, kun molemmat vanhemmat kuolevat. Vain McEwan osaa nivoa näin tiukasti tarinan sementillä yhteen. Ja jo ensimmäinen lause: "En tappanut isääni, mutta joskus minusta tuntuu, että autoin häntä matkaan." kertoo niin paljon teemoista, joita tarina pyörittää. ( )

Once in a while it's time for Ian McEwan. Although his books are always black and somehow scare me, they also attrack me. This time again. Four childeren, of whom first the father dies and shortly after that their mother. And because they don't want to be separated and life in an orphanage, they decide to hide their death. Not too difficult, as the family never has contact with people around.

Scary, and both hard to imagine as understandable how the childeren life on. Good book, I stay a fan of Ian McEwan.
