Off the top of my head, The Secret History comes to mind. At the start of the book, the main character has just moved to Vermont from California to switch colleges (and majors), and he takes up with a group of students that are quiet different than his previous friends.

I finished The Secret History -- good, but I agree with what the 1001 Books to Read before You Die reviewer says "trash for highbrows." I now going to start The River Wife by Jonis Agee -- I am excited because it my first "LT early reviewer" book. I feel so honored.

I zipped through "At the Edge of Empire" by Eric Hinderaker (a useful little survey) and now I'm on to Mary Gentle's "A Secret History," at least the first book; which after fifty pages is boring the you know what out of me. I'm setting it aside in favor of Glenn Altschuler's "All Shook Up."
