This biography describes the life and achievements of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States. The book outlines his log-cabin origins, his term in Congress, his leadership in Civil War, the abolition of slavery, and his famous speeches that includes the Gettysburg address, the most famous oration in American history, 19 November 1863.
Abraham Lincoln was born to a family of farmers. He was a little boy living in the farm when his mother suddenly died. His father married a new woman who became his stepmom and cared for Abe, as he is fondly called. Lincoln grew to be very tall (six feet four inches tall). His legs were so long that his friends would make him walk into streams to see how deep they were. He was a voracious reader and when he grew up, he became a congressman, representing the state of Illinois. Then he became President of the United States, the only president during the Civil War.
My favorite part is when Abraham became president. He was a great president who guided the nation during the Civil War and ended slavery. A couple of days after the civil war, he was killed, the first president to be assassinated.
Target audience grades 5-7
This Big Head Series of children's books are terrific. This helps gives young readers a small look at a life of Abraham Lincoln's and his part in history. The illustrations are well done and comical. It is easy to read and students in middles grades 4-7 can easily comprehend and enjoy it.
