This is a timeless children's classic story about a little girl Pippi Longstocking who wears her hair in signature red braids and has a knack for adventure. She lives by herself as her mother died when she was too little to remember and her father, a captain was washed overboard during a storm at sea. She believes he is king of a native tribe on some tropical island. She also has a pet monkey, Mr. Nilsson and a horse who lives on her porch. Although she lives by herself she does a wonderful job of taking care of herself, using unusual cooking techniques, mopping the floors by tying scrub brushes on to her feet, and single handedly dispatching burglars who come to steal the gold coins her father left her. Pippi is a fully developed character that readers immediately come to love and wish adore knowing her and her adventurous antics through the story. I think the humorous stories as well as Tommy, Anniika exhibiting emotions familiar to children such as overcoming fear in different parts such as when they mistook Pippi for a ghost make this a favorite story for many readers. no reviews | add a review
