To enter the world of M.C. Escher is to set foot into unknown and unsettling territory.
Throughout his life Escher was often frustrated and even depressed at his own perceived inability to work out a particular puzzle or difficult visual idea. But he would would work at it and lose sleep over the problem until he finally hit on how to produce the picture.
But, apart from art Escher did not distinguish himself at school and he failed all his exams except for mathematics.
