Mature, well-developed collection about the everyday lives of Chilcotin ranch folk. Each story has its own distinct flavour, but two are pure gold and feature in The Stirfry Virtual Anthology. "Sarah's Copper" is a marvellously uplifting celebration of human dignity; and "Sale of One Small Ranch" is quite simply a masterpiece. Highly recommended. ( )

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0140082174, Paperback)

Paul St. Pierre's witty, honest writing never fails to delight, and nor does his legendary character, Smith. Cowboys, ranchers, Indians, tradesmen--these are the spirited characters for which St. Pierre has become so well known, whose lives he sketches with humor and sympathy, and who people the cattle ranges of Chilcotin country, a spectacularly beautiful pocket of British Columbia.
