I recommend this book to all of my young sports fans with the knowledge that it may not contain the facts they are seeking, and it certainly doesn't offer photographs and illustrations they may hope for. For students interested in personal trivia, this edition may be just perfect. I particularly like the way Krull balances men and women in her portrayals. ( )The book is visually pleasing and has an eye-catching cover. Kathryn Hewitt's watercolor/colored pencil portraits are the highlight of the series and the thick white glossy paper with ample margins make the presentation reader friendly. Each of the 20 biographies is well written, informative and holds interest because they are relatively short (2-3 pages) and the focus is on the physical accomplishments of the athlete. Additionally, each bio briefly examines the quirks and exploits of each individual in everyday life. An asset for the middle school library with the other 5 series titles: women, artists, musicians, presidents and writers. no reviews | add a review
