Jason learns all about a cat's nine lives. One day, Jason’s cat, Gareth, tells him that cats can't live nine lives but can visit nine lives. With the wink of his eye, Gareth transports them to Egypt where they meet Pharaoh Neter-Khet and teach him that cats aren't possessions. From there they go to Rome. Roman soldiers take them to Britain where they meet Cedric Longtooth and his wife. In Ireland, they meet the servant boy who grows up to become St. Patrick. Then it's on to Japan, Italy, Peru, the Isle of Man, and Germany. Their final stop is America. They travel with a peddler and witness the opening events of the Revolutionary War. All of these adventures take but a moment, and Jason returns home in time for dinner.

Time Cat is a cute story of a boy and his time traveling cat. Gareth the cat has a mark shaped like an ankh on his chest. He transports his boy Jason through time where they share many adventures from ancient Egypt to witch hunting times and more. There are shades of Mr. Peabody and Sherman, if you’re old enough to remember the WABAC machine. ( )

Amusing story of a boy whose cat takes him back in time to different places and cultures. ( )

A blend of history and basic knowledge about cats for children. These are expressed through moralising tales as a boy and his cat travel to different ages and countries. The book would have been more interesting if the separate stories were linked together in some way. ( )

I always read this book with the intent to be marvelously entertained. I always am, but I forget how much this book progresses emotionally to the point where you almost are crying as it ends. Read it. Read it for the humor, the tears and the truth that Jason discovers in the world and in himself. ( )
