The author, a Chicago psychiatrist, suggests the fairy tale hero's quest to remain young was really a militant refusal to grow up.
And Kiley's premise is clear: the Peter Pan Syndrome extends beyond Never Never Land. He's writing about real-life men who never grow, probing the causes, symptoms and cures.
Using case histories, Kiley gives readers a test for helping them sniff out victims of the Peter Pan Syndrome. He also offers parenting tips. Still, one finishes the mildly interesting book wondering if Kiley really needed nearly 300 pages to deal with a "syndrome" that most of us know by another name -- "immaturity." ( )
