This is one of my favorites from childhood. It is the story of a young rabbit who decides he wants to run away from home and how his mother vows to always find him no matter where he goes or what he becomes. If he was to become a fish, she would be the fisherman. If he was to become a boat and sail away, she would become the wind that steers him back home.
It is a lovely book that highlights the never ending and far reaching aspect of a mother’s love. It also tells that no matter where you may run to you will always be welcomed back home. ( )

Old Children's Book. Liked it as a kid, but haven't read it in years. ( )

I loved this book, read it to all my children (endlessly) and still like it...though there is a kind of mama will stalk you ! element to it as I look at it from my wry, aged perspective. ( )

Genre: Fantasy
Genre Critique: This book portrays the fantasy genre through the use of talking animals and nature and inanimate objects that are personified. Although the book is unrealistic, the reader is able to follow along with the plot of the story and believe that these things could actually happen (when in reality they can't).
Setting Critique: The author creates an integral setting through the use of colorful, detailed pictures that help the reader to visualize what is happening in the story. The nature scene plays along with the story quite perfectly from bunnies in the forest, fish in the sea, birds in the air, a ship on the ocean, etc.
Revie/Critique: I thought this book was a cute story about a mother's love. Definitely a book for the younger ages, but one that I think children would enjoy.

Amazon.com Amazon.com Review (ISBN 0061074292, Board book)

Since its publication in 1942, The Runaway Bunny has never been out of print. Generations of sleepy children and grateful parents have loved the classics of Margaret Wise Brown and Clement Hurd, including Goodnight Moon. The Runaway Bunny begins with a young bunny who decides to run away: "'If you run away,' said his mother, 'I will run after you. For you are my little bunny.'" And so begins a delightful, imaginary game of chase. No matter how many forms the little bunny takes--a fish in a stream, a crocus in a hidden garden, a rock on a mountain--his steadfast, adoring, protective mother finds a way of retrieving him. The soothing rhythm of the bunny banter--along with the surreal, dream-like pictures--never fail to infuse young readers with a complete sense of security and peace. For any small child who has toyed with the idea of running away or testing the strength of Mom's love, this old favorite will comfort and reassure. (Baby to preschool)
