I must say, the skepticism that this diet would work, let alone entertain me, was quite high when I first purchased the book. It was out of sheer curiosity and the need for something different that I purchased it. Dr. Ian touched on one big point at the beginning of the book that really struck within me: I was never mentally prepared for any of the past diets that I've tried; I had always been so focused on getting to the "what" I can eat and when. But preparing for this diet before starting it has been quite successful...to the point that I've lost 11 pounds in almost a month of the diet. I repeat: I LOST 11 LBS. IN A MONTH!! It is amazing because he promises 12 lbs. of weight loss. The foods are inexpensive, easy to find, and things that I eat every now and then. I've learned about foods that I had always been afraid to eat for any particular reason or another, and I now make smarter food choices that I will keep. I love exercising and drinking water, believe it or not, because of the results I've seen and with Dr. Ian's encouragement. The only drawback is what the book lacks: now that I've lost weight, what's next? What's the "maintenance" diet? It may be the topic of his next book! But, either way, it works! I intend to take a week off, then start the diet again from the top. ( ) The Four Day Diet is a good diet book for those who want to lose weight. For those who are skinny and want to keep up their healthy lifestyle, this book might not necessarily be for you. While it does contain some good, healthy recipes, and nutritional and exercise charts, I already have all of these recipes and charts from other diet books. I am finding this book hard to review. Do I judge it on if I enjoyed the read, or if I lost weight? Well, I decided I should finish the book before I started the diet, so I have yet to lose any weight (but I did start this morning, and am so far, not struggling to follow it.) It was easy to read, easy to follow (the book itself), and educating. It was inspiring, and I think when I get stuck, if I go back and read some, it will be motivational. It was well laid out, and the ‘rules’ are clear. It is full of examples and anecdotes. It has pages of recipes, many of which look yummy, and you are allowed snacks, which there is also several pages of choices. And not all vegetables. Some of the snacks are also protein or carbs. My one big complaint would be that, the charts and diagrams seem to be stuck in randomly. Often they are paragraphs, or even pages later then the corresponding paragraph. Not unsinkable, but it did irritate me. no reviews | add a review

Dr. Ian Smith’s diets really work. America has lost millions of pounds following his Fat Smash and Extreme Fat Smash diets. Now, in The 4 Day Diet, Smith has developed a program that allows readers to avoid the normal (and fatal) pitfalls of dieting: boredom, no treats allowed, too much repetition, plateauing. The 4 Day Diet is an ingenious program of dieting modules lasting only four days each:
Induction (detox/cleansing)
Transition (to reintroduce all food groups)
Protein Stretch (to avoid plateaus)
Smooth (when you can have some formerly forbidden foods like pizza and French fries)
Push (the sprint just before the final stretch, back to a stricter eating plan)
Pace (a comfortable module for you to catch your breath)
Vigorous (the final module to lose those last few pounds)
You can follow The 4 Day Diet straight through for a month for stunning results. But Smith also designed The 4 Day Diet so you can customize your own program. After the first two modules, you can do the remaining 5 in whichever order suits your schedule or preferences or you can repeat the modules you like best. It also features over sixty delicious recipes for breakfasts, lunches and dinners and a complete snack list—food that will make you forget you’re on a diet.
Full of Ian Smith’s motivating tips and tricks and his smart, sensible eating advice that really works to take weight off fast, The 4 Day Diet is a diet you’ll be able to stick to, have success on, and even enjoy!
