Cute. The adventure is quite Ozian - a boy is swept up by a tornado (well, he says hurricane...) and dumped into Oz, near where a dog returning from an orbit around the Moon also lands. The dog, Yankee, is delighted to learn he can now talk; he and the boy Tompy make alliance and head out to get home. Various and sundry adventures along the way, some very strange creatures - and some not so strange, since Tompy has read all the Oz books and can recognize at least some of the people and places mentioned or encountered. A quest to rescue a princess is more-or-less accidentally achieved, and Tompy and Yankee get to go back home. Themes of talking and listening run throughout the story. There's nothing deep here - but that's not really a major feature of Oz (despite various psychological analyses of the books). It's very sweet. I might even read it again. ( )
