The Anglican Church was present in Australia from the beginning - a Chaplain to the Colony of NSW sailed with the First Fleet. As settlement spread the Church followed and in 1827 a minister was appointed to the Parish of Australia beyond Liverpool. The south-west grew rapidly and in 1863 Mesac Thomas was consecrated as first Bishop of Goulburn, his diocese encompassing the whole of southern NSW. The Diocese was renamed 'Canberra & Goulburn' in 1950 and A Church for a Nation celebrates 173 years of Anglican presence, 137 years of Diocesan history and 50 years of its existence under its present name. Written by the Rev'd Dr Tom Frame, ex-RAN officer and one of Australia's leading naval historians, A Church for a Nation makes a substantial contribution to Australian church and spiritual history and offers fascinating insights into the social history of southern NSW.… (more)
