En riktigt härlig roman, trots en något märklig titel - svår att komma ihåg är den också. Huvudpersonen är den algeriske pojken Jonas som föds i en oerhört fattig familj på landet. Efter att de tvingas lämna sin åkerlapp flyttar de till staden och får husrum i den verkliga slummen. Pojken adopteras snart av sin farbror apotekaren som kommit upp sig i världen. Där får han gå i skola, äta sig mätt och så småningom lära sig ett yrke. Han får vänner och skapar starka band till dem. Han upptäcker kärleken och senare den unga Emile som kommer att påverka hans liv starkt. Det gör också det algeriska frihetskriget som inleds och kärleken till sitt land och ursprung bildar fond till denna härliga berättelse.

Boken vann pris som bästa franska roman när den kom 2008. ( )

A very touching book, beautifully written. The painful history of Algeria's war for independence captured in one person's story. ( )
