Scruton's book on animal cruelty is really a direct attack on utilitarian philosophy, which involves a passing critique of Peter Singer (prominent moral philosopher) which rests upon a strategically narrow reading of his work. Though punctuated with many sensible passages, Animal Rights and Wrongs spends far to much time in defence of many contentious issues (defending fox hunting for one example, which may or may not be a good idea) than seeking to offer a conservative critique of the likes of intensive factory farming practises, which would be a welcome change. There is only a short condemnation to be found here. Still, a concise and well-argued book, if a little frustrating. ( )no reviews | add a review
