This Author should rank even lower than Ralph Blum, for failing to update a re-release without re-editing the fantasy and fallacy out. A free copy of this book might be worth a flip through, if only to appreciate how hard good information on the rites of the Anglo-Saxons was to come by in a pre-Internet time like when this was originally published in 1974. The worthy facts from this book could just as well bevpresented in a four page pamphlet. The bibliography is double spaced to take up room. Please read page xi in the introduction to the 2005 edition to put this book in context. ( )

Quotations
"... I chose the names Woden and Freya for my deities. I knew this was something of a mismatch. Frig was the more obvious mate for Woden...
... I was not trying to reconstruct the ancient religion of the Saxons, nor the magic that they employed. I don't believe that Witchcraft was necessarily a part of the Saxons' religious beliefs anyways..." - Introduction to the 2005 Edition page xi

Note 9, page 107
"This might-just possibly-have been inspired by the I-Ching, but is nowhere near as complicated as that ancient Chinese form of divination." - page 107
