Fun, funny, and really inventive novel. The plot centers on a group of Mexican American characters in the fictional town of Lava Landing, California (somewhere in the Central Valley). I loved the mixed media design of the book, with maps, charts, lotería cards, and other illustrations. Other great features of the novel: brujería, romance, bad puns, ghosts, saints, and lots of sinners. ( )

What a fun read! And her use of the Mexican Loteria (Bingo) cards as chapter headings was unique and engaging. ( )
