... trilogy in stock so I'll have to get that one later. #45 - I was very unimpressed by Unseen Academicals... #46 - Gifts is a good start, and the rest is just as good or better. But the third one (Powers) was... disturbing. Lots of violence and abuse.

adding to the thread again (sorry) more Joanne Harris, this time Coastliners; an Ursula K. Le Guin Gifts (first in a YA trilogy); The Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelazny (omnibus of the first 5 Amber novels which I haven't read since the 1970's) and The Floating Book : A novel of Venice ...

... a new home. Coastliners by Joanne Harris (I have still only read one of her books but am rapidly collecting more!) Gifts by Ursula K. Le Guin (I do not have enough of her books in my house so grab any omissions when I see them) The Floating Book : A Novel of Venice by Michelle Lovric ...

I completed reading Gifts: Annals of the Western Shore and none of my friends from home have read it, at all. My question is this, for those who read it: do you think Orrec really didn't use his gift of unmaking/undoing on the adder, the dog, or the Ants in the Ashbrook? I am curious to find ...

Stasia - Have you read Le Guin's YA trilogy Annals of the Western Shore. The first book Gifts was a really good fantasy and I'm keen to read the next two books. Powers won the Nebula Award.

... - I've enjoyed reading a few of the books you've listed - I thought The Cabinet of Wonders was pretty good. For me Gifts was great and I've just got the next book in the series. I also really enjoyed Well Wished, have you read her The Folk Keeper, it delves more into folklore.

... KNOW the sex, that makes you interpret at certain text in certain ways. That's all. Ursula K Le Guin have, in her book Gifts written a couple of passages which if they had been written by a male author would had been appalling in their misogyny. Cherryh, who writes some strong female ...

... least a trilogy! - but it's possible to read them without even knowing there's another one. I never felt that the ending of Gifts begged for a sequel, and was surprised when part two appeared. And - they're YA, pretty fast reads, if I may say so. The themes and the imagery are troubling, ...

#127 Busifer - Gifts is next up on my TBR - or was til you told me its a series, I thought it was a standalone, might have to rethink the order of my TBR coz I dont like starting a series unless I have all books to hand, perhaps the local library can help. Or maybe I should just read Perdido St St ...

What did you think of Powers, LA? Usually I like Le Guin, and I read Gifts, but the story didn't grab me and pull me into the series as A Wizard of Earthsea did, so I've been putting off the other books.

... is why threads like this can be so interesting! and here I will confess to starting but not finishing Ursula le Guin's Gifts. I was curious about her YA stuff, as I have been of other authors, but as I started reading this books about these people and their 'gifts' all I could think of was ...

Busifer in FantasyFans : YA Fantasy (Apr 2, 2007, 2:36pm)

Ursula K Le Guin has written a few, including the recent pair of Gifts and Voices which both are good. Also the Moomin books by Tove Jansson is good. Wheter to call them fantasy, or YA, one could argue but I have enjoyed them both as a kid in the 60's and now as an grown up. Especially ...

Busifer in Awful Lit. : Jumping the Bookworm (Dec 6, 2006, 11:22am)

I wouldn't say "decline" - some of her more recent stuff (Gifts and Voices) are if not brilliant nice to read, and Changing Planes is a nice collection of stories. I also remember liking The Wind's twelve quarters, but I don't seem to rememer much of it... But I agree if you're thinking of ...
