This great book is about a 10 year old boy named Josh Broder. He is a very talented musician that plays the trumpet. There are acutal photos of him playing his instrument, as well as a lot of information about musical instruments. This book is illustrated with acutal photos of Josh, his family, and his daily activities. It even showcases his summer camp he attends for the preforming arts.

At first I thought this was an autobiography becase it is written in first person, however it is clearly noted that the author is not Josh.

I would use this book for a non-fiction aspect of learning about music and the many instruments that can be played. An extension for it would be to have the class make an instrument and then re-enact the part with the conductor and concert practice for students to play the instruments together. This would be a great book for a text set or thematic unit for music. A seek and find game could be made for students to find information tidbits that are given in the book like how old is Josh, what instrument does his brother play, what is a percussion instrument, etc.
