#183 - thanks for the recommendation
I am reading Suite Francaise at the moment, and it's very good. The reproductions of the letters of the author's husband as he frantically tries to track her down after her arrest and before his own arrest and deportation to Auschwitz are very poignant.

Thanks so much Stasia. I forgot I have Suite Francaise on my bookshelf, the others I will hunt down.
Netherland (my #36) is a fine novel - well worth reading, and it sits along side Irene Nemirovsky's Suite Francaise as the two best novels I've read this year. Only a slightly unsatisfactory ending keeps it to 4.5 rather than 5 stars.
OK, that list was way too long! I've deleted it. If anyone wants the alphabetized list, tell me and I'll send it to you.

67. Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky
Fiction. Unfinished volume by Nemirovsky, who died during WWII. The stories take place during the evacuation of Paris (A Storm in June) and in a French village occupied by German forces (Dolce). I was lukewarm about A Storm in June, but absolutely ...
Finished Suite Francaise and started A Pale View of the Hills by Kazuo Ishiguro...already read Remains of the Day but wanted to read an Ishiguro along with the group :)
177. Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky- It's kind of an out of body experience to read a French novel about German occupation in WWII that is so kind to the German soldiers. Written by a French person. A Jewish French person. Who died in the Holocaust. There is little to no mention of the Jewish ...

I'm reading Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky. Already read Remains of the Day, but look forward to the discussion!
I have gotten tired of waiting for Suite Francaise to be available from the library, and have substituted Dragon Village instead. I found this one at the thrift store, and it looks like a really good find. It's the story of the Chinese Revolution in 1949 and the rise of the Communists. I'm ...
Two books left! I'm waiting on Suite Francaise from the library and it's taking forever, and my daughter borrowed A Countess Below Stairs and can't find it in her room. So if I don't have either book by Tuesday at the latest, I'm going to substitute something else. I still want to read those ...
>38 It's not on the list but I liked Némirovsky's All our Worldly goods better than Suite Francaise . I think if she'd had the opportunity to finish SF it would have been a better piece, but the contrast between the compassionate way she wrote about the invading german soilders in SF and the ...
Hi! I really loved Suite Francaise and thought the back story made it all the more compelling. I couldn't help but think what a truly great book it could have been if it had been completed. Too high expectations have ruined a few books for me as well.
I've finished Suite Francaise . I think my problem with it was that it was an unfinished manuscript. I found the appendices far more fascinating. Also finished She and I'm not sure quite what I think about that.

I finished Suite Francaise last week but it's taken a while to process all of my thoughts about it. It's a long one, so I'll just summarize my review here and then link to the full version for those who are interested.

Read Suite Francaise next. It's a really good book. I had to write down the names of the characters because I'm so forgetful, but I very much enjoyed the story. In fact, after reading that book, I took another book by the same author out of the library. It was Fire in the Blood. Both my ...
KimB, I did like Suite Francaise but more for its incredibly real depiction of its times. The village, the young women flirting with the occupying soldiers, the fleeing from Paris. All so real, because she wrote it while in the thick of it all. Fascinating. I shall keep my eyes open for All Our W ...

Finished All Our Worldly Goods last night. A beautiful novel. Astounding. I liked it better than Suite Francaise . In 200 pages Nemirovsky coveyed a huge amount. Highly recommended. I'll be looking out for more of her novels.
... or my unwillingness to enjoy a book unless I can identify with one or more main characters. The first time I tried to read Suite Francaise I was unaware of the author's own story and didn't look at the appendices. I just thought "blech" and put it down. Later I saw reviews on LT and found out ...
Interesting review. Most reviews of Suite Francaise have been laudatory, but all mention the history of the author. I wonder if the author's story overshadows the novel and alters people's reactions to it.
Since finishing my #22, The House at Riverton, I picked up Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky for the second time. Unfortunately, I dropped it again because I just don't like her characters or her writing style. Given the fact that the book is the first two parts, unfinished, of a larger ...

Sorry to report that I have abandoned Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky for the second time. I read the first 100 pages and just don't like her characters, nor even her writing style. However, I did go to the back of the book and read through the letters that detail some of what happened to the ...
#122 I just finished Suite Francaise today. Admittedly, I put it down and picked it up a few times, but then I became engrossed in it and thought it was great. I guess I had to be in the mood for it, if that makes sense.
Finished The House at Riverton and will start Suite Francaise later tonight. Riverton was a nice gothic with an unforseeable twist that harkens back a ways in the story. I enjoyed it very much. And I resurrected Suite Francaise from the bottom of a bag of books being donated because of reviews ...

I'm finally reading Suite Francaise -- and for my Non-Fiction selection, This is Your Brain on Music. But my garden is starting to take priority over reading, as it does every spring!

Are you planning to read Fire in the Blood as well?
Right - no 9 - can you believe it Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky. What can I say? It is the best book I've read in a long time. I don't know why I like it so much. She manages to capture the ordinary everyday feelings of her subjects at a time of great upheaval. The translation I ...

Finished Suite Francaise (book 8) this morning. Really loved it but was of course a bit sad that it was an unfinished book.
