This is a delightful retelling of the famous pilgrimage of the Chinese Buddhist monk Hsuan Tsang to India, some 1300 years ago or so. Grousset provides lots of helpful background on the cultures along the way.

I read this book many years ago but it has remained one of my favorites! ( )
