Nick had been in love with his ambitious and beautiful next door neighbor Ryanne, for as long as he could remember. But, being three years older and determined to leave their small Iowa town as soon as possible, Rhy had never seen him as more than just a good friend.

Now the years have passed and Nick continues to live out his obligations in the same small town until Ryanne suddenly descends back into his life from her upscale Californian world proving to him that some loves never die and other things are worth taking a risk for.

This was a nice little contemporary romance of a woman in transition discovering her roots and a man trying to get past his. Both characters were likeable and I enjoyed the parts with Nick's son and how he completely charmed Ryanne. Nick is a very caring person whose compassionate nature led him to a place in his life where he is just living out of obligation. Ryanne is almost completely his opposite at the beginning in deeds but similar in soul so it was a pretty good match up.

Overall a nice little contemporary romance. ( )

Book description
From the back cover: Boy-next-door Nick Sinclair had grown up into a hunk extraordinaire-that was Ryanne Whitaker's first shock on reencountring her sexy, single-dad neighbor. The second was that she was facing this broad-shouldered Mr. Goreous across the barrel of a gun!

Turned out Nick was now sheriff of tehir Iowa hometown and had mistaken Ryanne for an intruder...but meeing him again like that had certainly unsettled her settling in...Ryanne had planned her stay in town to be temprary. But that was before Nick kissed her! Was it time for Ryanne to trade in teh bright lights of the big city for the warm glow of hearth and home?
