This is excellent story telling. I actually ordered Lewis Robinson's first book, through a dealer, after reading less than thirty pages of Water Dogs. I initially felt the first half of the book was really, really good. Then, it was almost like the author was postponing the ending. However, after further reading the little side routes were necessary, in fact, crucial to the ending.

The character studies, family relationships, descriptions of Maine in winter were are all very well conveyed.

Lewis Robinson is yet another writer I will continue to follow and read throughout his career. ( )

I loved Water Dogs. It's a tale of two brothers and a twin sister living on a fishing island near Portland ME. Bennie, the younger brother in his early twenties and Gwen's twin, tells the story.

It centers around an outdoor paintball game gone bad "fought" in a winter storm. But the event never overwhelms the personal stories of the family, friends, dogs and life in the villiage. It's a tight character study of grown children brought up under a rigorous family code of honor, a code that brings on trouble but in the end helps them survive, and even teaches them how to love.
