I just discovered John Scalzi this month and am devouring everything he's published so far. The 1st 1/3 of Old Man's War had me setting the book down and saying 'Holy Shirt!' for the first time in several years. Very Heinleinesque. He has a Brilliant blog too that's worth a daily looksee.

Haven't read the Haldeman--not a big fan of the militaristic sf subgenre, but might recommend John Scalzi's Old Man's War as an alternative. I do like David Weber's early Honor Harrington books and Elizabeth Moon's books in that area as well.

I finished Old Man's War by John Scalzi while I was waiting on my car to get an oil change. Since I was at the local mall and they have a bookstore (just one, a tiny WaldenBooks), I walked over and picked up The Ghost Brigades also by Scalzi.
I finished Old Man's War and started The Ghost Brigades, both by John Scalzi. I really enjoyed the former. So much in fact, I rushed out and bought the latter as soon as I was done with it.
