I'm definitely a fan of Mildred Cackle. She's such a believable character and one to whom many middle-grade readers will be able to relate. But what I most appreciate about Jill Murphy's Worst Witch books is that, while Mildred's nemesis Ethel may be a teacher's pet, she doesn't go without punishment. In A Bad Spell for the Worst Witch, Ethel's punishments for her misdeeds are just as severe as those Mildred receives, a scenario not all that common among middle-grade books lately.

3.5 - This was a trip back to the past for me. Loved reading the whole series when I was younger and love just the same now. ( )

The third book in the Worst Witch series. It is one of the older books being first published in 1982 but is still relevant and enjoyable for today's kids. ( )
